[Track and Field] Vailas and Griffiths Grab KCAC Indoor Athlete of the Week AwardsHarrison and Hieber Power Tufts Women s Track and Field to Third at D3 New England Championship

Fresman Angiel Vailas (Wichita, Kan.) was named the KCAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and fellow freshman Zack Griffiths (Desoto, Kan.) was named the KCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for their performances at the Missouri Southern State University Lion Invitational.

Vailas finished 4th out of 48 competitors in the 60m dash, meeting the NAIA B Qualifying Standard with a time of 7.83 seconds. She also placed 13th out of 63 runners in the 200m dash with a time of 26.57. Vailas currently ranks #1 in the KCAC and #14 in the NAIA in the 60m dash and #2 in the KCAC and #35 in the NAIA in the 200m dash.

Griffiths set a new Friends record by scoring 4,016 points in the heptathlon, and eclipsed the National Qualify Standard by more than 250 points. He placed 2nd among the NAIA participants in the event at MSSU. Griffiths currently ranks #1 in the KCAC and #18 in the NAIA in the heptathlon.

Friends heads to Manhattan for the KCAC Championships on Friday and Saturday this week.

One victory and nine top-five individual performances propelled the Jumbo women s track and field team to a third-place finish in the Division III New England Championship at Springfield on Friday and Saturday.
